STRUCTURAL EPOXY LINING
What is a Structural Epoxy Liner?
A structural epoxy coating is an ultra-high build, reinforced “self-supporting” film designed at specified thicknesses (125 mils min.) to hold back low-pressure forces, such as inflow and infiltration (I&I) while protecting from corrosive hydrogen sulfide (H2S) as an internal lining system. This is accomplished with microfiber reinforced polymerization (FRP) delivering high strength applied and bonded lining. Cured for hardened durability – thick strength performance lining.
The uniqueness of a structural epoxy coating used to line, is its ability to hold back a variety of conditions in underground, below-grade environments that would otherwise adversely affect “traditional” coatings. A structural epoxy coating is often specified as a bonded system. However, when applied at its minimum design thickness, should areas inadvertently become unbonded, the film can be self-supporting because of its high mechanical strength. This free film can then hold back low-pressure forces of I&I, moisture vapor transmission (MVT), and hydrostatic head pressure.
A structural epoxy coating exhibits high mechanical strengths which can also serve as a candidate for certain design criteria where other forces beyond I&I may be present, such as internal pressure or earth loading. In these cases, a certified and licensed engineer would perform thickness calculations.
Thin Film Protection is Not Enough
When searching for infrastructure repair and protection measures, it is best to seek cost-effective systems for the long-term, high-performance solutions to rehabilitate and protect structures with the right balance of properties. Using products that are stronger than traditional materials, resistant to attack, and which are engineered to be long-lasting and durable will solve the problems of today and endure into the future. Our CPP product line offers ultra-high build, high flexural and tensile strength microfiber reinforced epoxy lining to protect your asset.
When Should I Consider a Structural Epoxy Lining System?
The unique attributes of a structural epoxy lining system deliver an ultra-high build, reinforced “self-supporting” coating perfectly designed for lining infrastructure susceptible to severe wastewater conditions and of which exist below-grade. A good example is infrastructure such as sanitary sewer collection systems (manholes, lift stations, pipe) which are installed within the water table or are highly fatigued treatment plant structures where rehab and corrosion protection is required, but also sealing from I&I is paramount.
