Weathering the Challenge
The Yucaipa Valley Water District in Yucaipa, California, completed the replacement of Lift Station #4 in May 2025 to ensure reliable operation and long-term performance.
Designed for concrete immersion service below grade, the project required a durable, structural-grade lining system capable of withstanding potential groundwater intrusion. Epoxytec’s proven high-performance lining solutions were the clear choice for this application. ECAN (Epoxytec Certified Applicator Network) member Parada Painting, based in Poway, California, served as the field applicator, working under the engineering oversight of Krieger & Stewart of Riverside, California. As an ECAN-certified contractor, Parada Painting has undergone specialized training in the proper surface preparation and application of Epoxytec products.
Surface preparation was performed in accordance with SSPC-SP13 to achieve an ICRI CSP 5 profile. The substrate was resurfaced with Tnemec’s Series N218 MortarClad, followed by the application of Series 456 CPP Sprayliner via spray method. This ultra-high-build epoxy system was selected for its proven performance in sealing against infiltration and providing long-term structural protection in immersion environments.
Weather fluctuations during the application added complexity to the project. The local “June Gloom” climate created cold, overcast mornings followed by hot, sunny afternoons—conditions that required careful monitoring to ensure proper cure and performance.
“With the possibility for groundwater intrusion, the CPP Sprayliner was a no-brainer here,” said Chris Hille, Tnemec/Epoxytec representative. “Working with Parada is fantastic. They have excellent applicators, and the CPP Sprayliner added to the ease for them to complete this project.”
