Findlay Water Infrastructure Improvements

The Findlay Water Infrastructure Improvements project, completed on October 1, 2024, focused on rehabilitating vital water infrastructure in Findlay, Ohio. The City of Findlay, working with Arcadis as the engineer and Culy Contracting LLC as the field applicator, sought an effective solution to restore their aging water infrastructure. The project involved the application of Series 456 CPP Sprayliner to a pipe substrate, including concrete precast and ductile iron components, which required specialized care and attention throughout the process.

The rehabilitation process was streamlined with the use of spin casting for the application of Series 456, utilizing a 1/2″ double hose with 350-foot pulls to coat all substrate surfaces at 250 mils DFT in a single pass. Prior to application, meticulous surface preparation was carried out, including the use of a vac/jet truck, manual pressure washing, mechanical grinding on ductile iron, and mechanical descaling with a jet truck. The project was further complicated by the challenge of keeping the product at the proper temperature during application and preventing the umbilical cord from bunching up during spin cast. Despite these challenges, the team achieved efficiency, completing the spin-cast application in just two days after the initial prep work had been finished the week before.

With a total of 750 gallons of Series 456 applied, the system was able to withstand full water submersion 24/7, ensuring long-term protection for the infrastructure. The project’s quick turnaround and the successful use of Epoxytec’s structural liner made it a standout example of efficient water infrastructure rehabilitation.

The Findlay Water Infrastructure Improvements project highlights the value of advanced coatings and resourceful application methods in ensuring the longevity and durability of essential water systems. The team’s ability to meet tight timelines while overcoming operational hurdles demonstrates their expertise and commitment to delivering high-quality results for the City of Findlay.
