Concrete Manhole Corrosion Solution

Corrosion was the culprit for this concrete manhole which required rehabilitation to stop the continual effects of Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S). Due to the severe condition of the manhole including visible signs of deterioration and spalling concrete that compromised the structure, an emergency repair was deemed necessary.

Using water and wastewater’s top-quality products and equipment, applicators Savy and Sons presented a formidable solution. As members of Epoxytec’s Certified Applicator Network (ECAN) for close to a decade, Savy and Sons has perfected the art of manhole restoration. The company’s experience allows them to act quickly and efficiently to provide services using proven products to bring manholes back to like-new conditions.

This particular rehabilitation began with surface preparation that included the removal of damaged concrete and abrasive blasting in accordance with SSPC-SP13/NACE No. 6 “Surface Preparation of Concrete.” Using a heated, plural component system, Epoxytec’s Series 456 CPP Sprayliner was spray applied. The CPP Sprayliner product produces a thick, microfiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) film with high mechanical strength to protect against corrosion and seal Inflow & Infiltration (I&I). It has excellent H2S resistance, sealing, moisture tolerance, and service wear durability, making it a go-to product for manhole rehabilitation.

Savy and Sons’ skilled technicians exemplify the caliber of applicators that Epoxytec seeks out for its certified network. With the customer at the forefront of their decisions, technicians from Savy and Sons provide cost-saving solutions to satisfy the specific, targeted needs that each individual project addresses. In this case, the potentially costly effects of H2S were avoided.
